I did some minor music editing to some of her processional songs…..timing was EVERYTHING on this one and we NAILED it!!

Music for the Cocktail hour was a mix of Indie rock, contemporary Rock and classic hits.

RECEPTION HIGHLIGHTS:

Introduction Music: Blackout by Breathe Carolina (The whole wedding party came out to this song and I had the dance version, so this really jump started the night!)

First Dance: a song entitled Sweet Memory by an Indie Rock band called Tindersticks (good tune, check it out).

Father/Daughter: Daddy’s Angel by T Carter Music (Your quintessential father daughter dance, hard not to shed a tear to this song….sniff, sniff)

Step-Father/Daughter: The dance by Garth Brooks (a fitting song for Christine and her step-dad)

Mother/Son:  You’ve got a friend by James Taylor (title says it all. this song is perfect for a meaningful song between a groom and his mom, without being terribly sappy.)

Now the rest of the night was in my hands and Dan and Christine had requested about 10 AWESOME songs and told me to “do my thang” for the rest of the night! They had a couple fun wedding songs, some 90’s and definitely had some today’s HOT Dance music on there! The crowd was NONSTOP for 2 hours! Reception Highlights:

I helped design introduction music for Jeven & Dan – they wanted something fun and that’s what I did!

Parents Intro’s: We No Speak Americano by Yolanda Be Cool (GOOD TUNE! It’s one of those hand clapping songs that gets people amped)

Bridal Party Intro’s: Yeah by Usher (Instrumental Version)

Bride & Groom Intro: It’s a long way to the top if you wanna Rock n’ Roll by Drop Kick Murphy’s (the Beginning has a great drum beat, then right when I announced Jeven & Dan, I cued into the Bag Pipe section of the song…..it was HOT!)

First Dance: To make you feel my Love by Garth Brooks (many different covers of this song but Garth Brooks is one of the better ones)

Parent Dances :

Father/Daughter: Daddy’s little girl by Al Martino (How could you not shed a tear to this song)

Mother/Son:  “a Song for my son” by Mikki Viereck (Only the first song ever written for a Groom and his Mom, seriously…..look it up ;)

The rest of the night was a Mix of Top 40, 80’s and of course I got busy with a 90’s set. Couple fun songs that stick out is when I played Soul Sista by Train…..usually a dinner song but the Bride’s mom insisted on Dancing to it and it was a hit! Another was this timeless classic by Kenny Loggins – Footloose!

Seating of the Parents: At last by Etta James (May she rest in peace, this is a song that will still be classic and played in 50 years from now)

Entrance of the Bridesmaids: You’ve got a friend by Carole King

Entrance of the Bride: Sea of Love by Cat power (I really love this song for ceremony music, please go listen to it)

Recessional: Lucky by Marc Broussard (Cued right at the chorus)

Music for the Cocktail hour was an eclectic mix of the Beatles, Van Morrison, independent & various Artists.

RECEPTION HIGHLIGHTS:

Introduction Music:  I’ve got the world on a string by Michael Buble (The whole wedding party……all 30 of them…..was introduced to this song, which gave that traditional, timeless, yet classic feel, which Ali & Ben were going for).

First Dance: Harvest Moon by rock legend Neil Young.

Father/Daughter: Wild World by Cat Stevens (I can’t tell you how much I love this song! and for Ali and her dad to dance to this song was amazing!)

Mother/Son:  You are the sunshine of my life by Stevie Wonder (a fitting song for all you grooms looking for a nice song to dance with ‘Mom’)

There is only one word to describe the rest of the reception/night…….EPIC!!!!! Ali & Ben wanted that good time feel of wedding music without being overly cheesy, for example: Love Shack, MJ, Motown, The Stones, Footloose and a couple Top 40). Some of my favorite moments is when Ali danced with her Brother, sister and Immediate family to Your so Vein by Carly Simon (that was a cool intimate moment, that I’m sure will be always be remembered). But where this wedding went into EPIC proportions is when Ali’s Uncle asked me to play Big Ole Butt by LL Cool J. Normally, this would be a little riske’ but he assured me there was a meaning behind it, so I said “what the hell!” -well as soon as I hit play…..her uncle and several other guys meet in the middle of dance floor…..did a little shimmy, then to my surprise, dropped trouser and danced in their boxers!! YUP……SEE FOR YOURSELF!!!

Ali & Ben I am so glad you decided to hire me and NOT an Apple iPod…….this was a great way to start off the 2012 season and one wedding, which will be hard to Top ;-)

Successful Tips to Hire a DJ!

Thanks for stopping by! When searching for a Capital Region Wedding DJ to hire for your wedding, here are some things to look for:

1. Experience. Look for someone who specializes in weddings and has performed at over several hundred weddings. A world of experience will make the world of difference at your event. Choose a DJ who knows how to talk on the microphone and when not too. A DJ with a clear and professional voice that will be the Master of Ceremonies but won’t end up telling bad jokes either!
2. Interaction. You want someone who can bring an element of class to your wedding at the same time being fun. Classy not Cheesy. Leave the cheese for the hors d’oeuvres. Look for a DJ who will play a wide variety of music and A DJ who can read the crowd. Keeping the PARTY GOING, so all your guests, young and old can party rock!
3. Attention to Detail. A DJ should do more than just show up at your wedding and play music. I believe that they should also help you plan & coordinate your wedding. (More specifically, the music and the order of events)
4. Personalization. Select a DJ who will provide you with the undivided personal attention you deserve, from beginning to end. Hire a DJ who will customize the music to your tastes. Who will play the songs and styles of music you want and avoid those you don’t want.
5. Equipment. Hire someone with a state-of-the-art top of the line sound system. It will make a tremendous difference for you and your guests. Imagine a clock radio playing in your bedroom….not bad, but then imagine that same clock radio playing outside in the backyard….not so good. Hire a DJ with the right sound!

RECEPTION HIGHLIGHTS:

Sarah wanted something upbeat for intro’s……..to let everybody know IT’S PARTY TIME!!!!!!!

Parent Intro’s:  Without you by Usher ft. David Guetta (The fast upbeat part of the song).

Bridal Party Intro’s: Hello by Martin Solveig (By far one of my favorite bridal party songs to introduce the Bridal party too! It’s fun, upbeat and get’s everyone pumped up!)

Bride & Groom Intro’s: We Found Love (Chuckie Extended Remix) by Rihanna (Awesome remix to this song…..it has a long instrumental part before it breaks into the chorus, PERFECT for Intro’s!)

First Dance: Dance me to the end of love by the Civil Wars (Cool band and a great first dance choice –it’s unique. Check them out!!!)

Once dinner was over, we cut the cake and opened up the dance floor for the remainder of the evening! There was such great energy in the air, there had to be at least 90 percent of the people at the reception on the dance floor – it was Bananas!!! Sarah was a big fan of dance music……….well guess what, so am I ;-) I have a lot cool remixes to old school songs, so everyone from young to old can enjoy them! My favorite parts of the night is when I played Walk like an Egyptian by the Bangles for Sarah’s Sisters and everyone broke out their best impersonation of an Egyptian dance….LOL!!! The other is how I closed the night……I love it when a crowd at a reception Chants “ONE MORE SONG, ONE MORE SONG!!” Check out the Video to see what I played!
